Position Overview:

We are seeking a Resource Options Planning Engineer to join our Energy Resource Planning Department.

In this role, you'll help plan Manitoba's future energy supply by evaluating and developing new electricity generation opportunities. Reporting to the Supply Options Planning Lead, you'll work on projects that support long-term supply planning and the development of Integrated Resource Plans.

You will be responsible for assessing new generation resource options by developing project concepts, preparing cost estimates and schedules, and contributing to planning reports and recommendations. Working closely with colleagues across the organization, consultants, and technical experts, you'll bring together diverse perspectives and information to support informeddecision-making and strategic energy planning.

Responsibilities:

• Develop integrated planning studies for a range of new supply options including, but not limited to, combustion turbines, wind, solar, batteries and hydropower from the Stage 1 Inventory Level to the Stage 4 Pre-investment Level.
• Develop and update concepts, cost estimates, schedules and in-service dates including development activities, alternatives and evaluations based on input developed within the department, from other departments and consultants.
• Develop design criteria for new supply options through research and applying basic engineering principles to help ensure safe and cost-effective solutions that align with system needs.
• Contribute to defining engineering design parameters for supply options, focusing on integrating innovative solutions to meet safety, cost-efficiency, and system compatibility requirements within the generation and transmission network.
• Coordinate planning activity schedules, and track deliverables and drive their progress to completion.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams including members from within the department, other departments and by Consultants contributing to the staged planning studies. These studies included but are not limited to generation design, operations, transmission interconnection, licensing & permitting, property, environmental assessment and mitigation, cost estimating and risk analysis.
• Prepare and update supply options input parameters annually for input to long term supply planning and integrated resource planning processes.
• Participate in research and monitoring activities for supply options to ensure that planning considers modern technologies to be incorporated in the conceptual planning of supply options.
• Conduct and participate in engineering economic analysis and evaluations, business case development and risk analysis.
• Create and contribute to the development of reports and technical memoranda documenting results of planning studies.

Qualifications:

• Graduate in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of six years of directly related experience including at least two years directly related planning experience.
• Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of the planning, design and operation of hydropower, wind and solar would be an asset.
• Knowledge of generation planning, engineering, cost estimating, scheduling and construction principles and contracting practices.
• Knowledge of the operation of integrated systems including generation, transmission and HVDC operations.
• Ability to effectively coordinate and direct personnel both inside and outside Manitoba Hydro.
• Must possess initiative and sound judgment with the ability to make and implement sound and timely decisions.
• Must be able to handle complex technical problems with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated initiative, creativity and ability to motivate personnel both inside and outside of the Corporation.
• A good organizer and capable of scheduling work to meet defined objectives.
• Demonstrated experience with application of project management processes and tools to manage projects.
• Demonstrated ability to carry out numerous concurrent tasks.
• Must obtain and maintain a current Personal Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.

Notes/Comments:

• May be required to work at other locations within the province for limited durations, and where transportation between these sites may be by small aircraft.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $48.74-$67.29 Hourly, $93,398.24-$128,947.78 Annually.
