About the job

In this role, you will:

  • carry out site inspections, field surveys, compliance inspections, and other operational activities
  • provide technical guidance to staff and the public
  • assist with administration and record keeping for projects and programs
  • gather and compile technical information to make recommendations
  • promote awareness of resource management and protection
  • support partnerships and initiatives with various stakeholders

What you bring to the team

Mandatory:

You must have a valid class ‘G’ driver’s license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof of a valid driver’s license upon being hired.

Technical expertise:

  • Thorough working knowledge of ecological sustainability principles and resource management practices
  • Ability to interpret relevant legislation, policies, and procedures applicable to natural resources management programs (e.g., forestry, aggregates, fish and wildlife, lands and waters)
  • Experience in conducting operational field programs and site inspections
  • Knowledge of standards and operating practices of field equipment for information gathering and field operations
  • Proficiency with computers and software applications including GIS, record-keeping, and internet tools

Interpersonal and communication skills:

  • Effective relationship-building skills with diverse clients and stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills for responding to inquiries, making presentations, and sharing information
  • Ability to represent the ministry and present information tactfully and effectively

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

  • Planning and coordination skills for managing human and equipment resources
  • Ability to recommend actions in cases of non-compliance and resolve issues in resource operations and field conditions

Planning and group leadership skills:

  • Organizational skills for scheduling and coordinating resources and projects
  • Leadership skills to assign work, guide, and monitor progress of staff and students
