Cambrian College’s Employment Options Espanola is seeking a Resource Centre Specialist on a contract basis until April 2027 under the Initiatives/Opportunities language of the Support Staff Collective Agreement. Position located at 91 Tudhope St., Espanola, ON with salary $30.43 hourly.

Openings run from 09/10/2026 with a closing date of 9/17/2026 12:00 PM Eastern. Internal candidates receive first consideration; travel to employer sites is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a two-year postsecondary diploma.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience in career and employment guidance and counselling, along with experience in employment workshop delivery, and job placement.
  • Must have worked in an environment where analysis and assessment of client needs and barriers was required.
  • Travel is required to employer job sites; valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and reliable transportation are essential.
  • Self-directed individual with the ability to balance multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Commitment to working within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information and referral, case management, employment planning and preparation, and job placement to Employment Options clients daily.
  • Conduct intake interviews to determine client eligibility and needs; assess clients’ skills, interests, abilities, barriers, education, and work experience.
  • Complete all appropriate file documentation including application forms, service plans, releases of information, and IDs.
  • Develop a service plan clarifying vocational goals, barriers, and steps to overcome them; provide ongoing career direction and referrals as needed.
  • Research, develop and deliver workshops based on assessment outcomes and client needs.
  • Identify and negotiate career exploration opportunities and subsidies with employers and program guidelines.
  • Develop training plans with employers and maintain required documentation.
  • Monitor client performance during job search and placement and adjust as needed.
  • Maintain client-tracking systems and ensure timely completion of documentation; conduct follow-ups at 3, 6, and 12 months.
  • Liaise with employers, government agencies, and community groups; participate in committees and present as required.

Position Summary
Cambrian College’s Employment Options Espanola requires a Resource Centre Specialist on contract basis in accordance with the Initiatives/Opportunities language of the Support Staff Collective Agreement until April 2027.

Note: Internal candidates, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide information and referral, case management, employment planning and preparation, and job placement to Employment Options clients daily.
  • Conduct intake interviews to determine client eligibility and needs; conduct assessments of clients eligible for Employment Options assisted service by identifying and documenting clients’ skills, interests, abilities, barriers, educational background, and work experience.
  • Complete all appropriate file documentation which may include items such as: application form, service plan agreement, releases of information, and obtains necessary identification.
  • Develop a service plan that clarifies vocational goals, barriers to employment and describes short-term and long-term steps required to overcome barriers and achieve goals. Provide on-going career direction to clients, making appropriate referrals to community services or additional Employment Ontario services as required. Monitor client progress and makes appropriate adjustments to the service plan.
  • Research, develop and deliver workshops on topics as a result of the assessment process and the ongoing needs of the client as identified in the career development plan and throughout Employment Options.
  • Identify and negotiate career exploration opportunities such as job shadowing, voluntarism, job trials, and on-the-job training placements. Negotiate a subsidy reimbursement rate with employers and payment schedule within prescribed program guidelines. Appraise work sites for safety and quality of training.
  • Develop skills training plan in collaboration with training employer, and maintain required documentation.
  • Monitor client performance during job search and placement; proposes and implements appropriate problem solving, as required.
  • Maintain client-tracking systems, records the activities of individual clients and ensures the timely completion and accuracy of required documentation including contracts, payroll information, and statistics. Conduct 3, 6, and 12-month client follow-up.
  • Liaise with employers, government agencies, a variety of community, social and educational agencies; participate on committees where community planning needs and issues regarding training and employment are being addressed; make presentations to community groups and agencies as required.
