Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Residential Driver in Dartmouth, NS to safely collect solid waste and recyclables along curbside and backdoor routes. You will operate side loaders, perform inspections, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental policies.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Class 3 license, and at least 1 year of commercial driving experience or CDL training. Physical effort is required, and benefits include health and retirement programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Class 3 driver’s license.
• Minimum 1 year of commercial driving experience or completion of a recognized CDL training program.
• Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs and maneuvering in tight spaces.
• Strong communication, teamwork, knowledge of vehicle safety/maintenance, and ability to perform manual labor in varying environments.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate side loaders or recycling trucks and related equipment along assigned routes.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete required reports.
• Collect solid waste and recyclables, identifying and handling prohibited or hazardous waste per procedures.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and promptly report mechanical issues or route hazards.
• Follow safety, environmental, and company policies, maintaining accurate service records.
• Support route optimization and communicate with supervisors; assist with overtime as needed.

The Residential Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transport them to post-collection facilities.

Requirements

• Route Efficiency: Support route optimization, communicate effectively with supervisors, and assist with overtime as needed.

Working Conditions & Demands

• Physical & Mental Demands: Requires regular walking, climbing, kneeling, and lifting, as well as maintaining focus while driving in high-traffic, noisy, or fast-paced settings.
• Environment: Outdoor work across all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) with exposure to noise, odors, and moving vehicles. Proper protective equipment (PPE) is provided for occasional exposure to hazardous conditions.
