Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a part-time Recreation Aide to assist in planning, organizing, and delivering meaningful activities for residents in our Winnipeg facilities. You will collaborate with the Recreation Manager and Executive Director, maintain records, and help with meals and outings to enhance residents' quality of life.

The role requires a college diploma in Recreation or related field, prior senior care experience, and a driver’s license.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
• Previous experience working with seniors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
• Valid provincial driver’s license to transport residents by van (Class 4; Class F).
• Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Assist to plan, organize and implement meaningful programs for residents.
• Maintain department records including assessments and participation charts.
• Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers and staff.
• Attend in-service education to stay informed on elderly care trends.
• Participate in team meetings to plan resident-centric activities.
• Facilitate pre-arranged outings and assess activity levels.
• Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities and meals as required.
