Research Associate, Health Data Analytics & Evaluation

Position Overview

The Physician Learning Program in the Office of Continuing Medical Education at the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate, Health Data Analytics & Evaluation. This full-time fixed-term position is approximately 10 months (based on grant funding), with potential for extension.

The Physician Learning Program (PLP) is a collaborative initiative between the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine. It aims to improve healthcare by providing physicians and teams with meaningful, evidence-based data and tools for reflective practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise on research methods to properly measure change and impact over time
  • Integrate, clean, and manage complex datasets from multiple systems for longitudinal consistency and accuracy
  • Conduct data mapping, transformation, and document variables and quality assurance protocols
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop sustainable, scalable quality improvement (QI) solutions based on real-world clinical data
Data Analysis, Evaluation & Reporting
  • Perform advanced statistical analyses (e.g., R, Stata) to generate insights for clinical reflection and system outcomes
  • Conduct regression and quantitative analyses to assess changes in physician practices over time
  • Lead evaluation activities to determine initiative effectiveness and impact
  • Use real-time data for adaptive learning and improvement in collaboration with project teams
Scholarly Dissemination
  • Support ethics applications, including study design and research methods
  • Contribute to publications and conference presentations, including drafting methods, analyses, and discussions
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in health sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or Health Informatics (or equivalent experience)
  • 1-3 years of experience working with health data, preferably in QI or research
  • Proficiency with statistical software (R, Stata, SAS) and data visualization tools (Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience managing and analyzing complex, longitudinal health datasets
  • Knowledge of implementation science frameworks and qualitative evaluation (asset)
  • Familiarity with Alberta health data systems (Connect Care, physician claims, DAD, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
