Job summary

University of Calgary is seeking a Research Assistant in the Department of Earth, Energy & Environment within the Faculty of Science. This full-time fixed-term role (~12 months, possible extension) supports the Reactive Transport Group by performing technical and analytical work, collecting and interpreting data to advance research.

The position reports to a Professor and involves field and lab activities, report generation, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Engineering, Science, or related field with experience in mineralogical and geochemical analysis.
  • Past experience in leading laboratory analyses and working with varied research stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide reports of mineralogical and geochemical analyses to research stakeholders.
  • Investigate processes related to mineral deposition in natural and engineered environments.
  • Use analytical tools to characterize solid, liquid, and/or gas samples to determine their composition.
  • Planning and participate in field excursions and laboratory research.
  • Facilitate laboratory supply acquisition, laboratory safety training, and instrumentation training.
