Job summary

ALS in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to perform preparations, extractions and analysis on soil and water samples. You will generate worklists, retrieve samples, run sample prep, filtration, extraction and digestion, and document all steps with accuracy.

You will operate pipettes, shakers, centrifuges and meters, calibrate equipment, manage data and records, keep glassware clean, and support archiving and turnaround deadlines in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Lab experience would be an asset; full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Generate worklists and retrieve samples from storage.
• Perform sample preparation including screening, grinding, pasting, filtration, extraction and digestion.
• Prepare reagents, standards, and reference materials.
• Operate lab instruments such as pipettes, shakers, centrifuges and meters.
• Calibrate and maintain instrumentation; perform data processing and record-keeping.
• Assist in sample flow, data and archival processes; maintain hygiene and glassware.
• Work to defined turnaround times and support team goals.
