Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Software Engineer - Storage in Canada to build and scale a high-performance object storage platform. You will work across the stack, from client libraries to storage servers and deployment infrastructure, contributing to open-source projects and improving developer experience.

The role involves enhancing storage capabilities, optimizing asset delivery, expanding edge infrastructure, and ensuring reliability at scale within a globally distributed, asynchronous environment.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of backend engineering experience, including operating Node.js applications in production environments.
• Experience designing, building, or operating highly scalable distributed systems.
• Comfort working across the technology stack, including backend application development and infrastructure deployment, monitoring, and scaling.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Experience with performance tuning, production troubleshooting, and improving the reliability of distributed services.
• Strong practical experience with PostgreSQL in production, including database tuning and troubleshooting.
• Ownership mindset with ability to drive projects independently from problem definition to delivery.
• Strong appreciation for developer experience and building intuitive, reliable tools for developers.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, asynchronous, globally distributed team environment.

Responsibilities

• Enhance storage capabilities and analytics storage offerings including Apache Iceberg and DuckLake.
• Optimize asset delivery to improve speed and performance for websites and apps.
• Expand edge infrastructure to accelerate uploads and implement features like automatic cache invalidation.
• Improve storage server performance via monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Develop storage exploration tools in collaboration with frontend engineers.
• Enhance APIs, client libraries, and CLI tools for a seamless developer experience.
• Strengthen upload/download reliability across clients and environments.
• Contribute to open-source storage server components and upstream improvements.
• Resolve escalated issues by investigating causes and implementing systemic improvements.
• Work across backend, infrastructure deployment, monitoring, and service operations as needed.
• Drive end-to-end projects from problem definition to delivery.
