Job summary

AutoScale Ventures is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve backend systems powering data-heavy products like VinAudit.ca and SquidProxies.com. You will own key backend initiatives end-to-end, mentor peers, and collaborate on architectural decisions to improve reliability and performance.

The role emphasizes autonomy and ownership, with a focus on scalable APIs, data pipelines, and production scalability. Fully remote, Canada-based, with strong growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering or architectural experience.
• Track record of building backend systems from scratch and launching them into production.
• Experience designing and operating APIs or backend systems at scale.
• Strong systems thinking regarding performance, failure modes, scaling and long-term maintainability.
• Experience in startup or startup-like environments or owning major systems.
• Comfort working autonomously and making high-impact technical decisions.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools to support productivity and code quality.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve backend systems powering data-heavy production products.
• Own major backend initiatives from design through rollout and long-term maintenance.
• Write and maintain scalable APIs and backend services used at scale.
• Lead architectural improvements to improve reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Break complex designs into executable components and delegate effectively.
• Collaborate with leadership and senior engineers on technical direction.
• Mentor developers through code reviews and best practices.
