Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Lead Substation Protection & Controls Engineer to own complex P&C designs for 12–500 kV systems, applying advanced digital logic and AC/DC expertise to protect the grid. This remote, Canada-based role requires travel to US sites as needed and offers strong growth, mentoring, and certifications support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• Eight or more years of substation protection and control design experience.
• Experience leading and executing substation protection and control projects.
• Willingness to travel to project sites in the United States as needed.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support delivery of substation protection and control design projects.
• Create relay one-line diagrams defining protection zones and topology.
• Develop detailed AC schematics with currents, voltages, and device relationships.
• Produce DC control and protection schematics ensuring safe operation.
• Design control panels, wiring diagrams, and layouts for constructability.
• Build accurate BOMs aligned with client requirements.
• Perform QC checks on wiring and schematics for safety and accuracy.
• Provide guidance during installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Apply NEC/NESC requirements to ensure compliant designs.
