Developmental Services of Leeds and Grenville is seeking a Relief Community Support Worker in Brockville, Ontario. The role provides support to individuals with developmental disabilities at home and in the community, including respite services for families.

The wage is $27.00 hourly, with casual/relief scheduling and minimum availability of one shift every three months. Qualifications include a 2-year college diploma in a related field (BST/CYW/DSW preferred), 1 year of relevant experience, and

Qualifications

  • 2-year College Diploma in a related field preferably BST, CYW, DSW.
  • 1-year practical experience with individuals who have a developmental disability preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs and best practice service standards for persons with developmental disabilities.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • CPR, CPI and First Aid training.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provides Community Support to Clients By: Implementing the delivery of services within the community.
  • Teachingsituational daily living skills.
  • Working towards accomplishing goals set by the Individual Support Plan (ISP).
  • Observing individual’s relevant skill strengths and needs.
  • Transporting the individual to various activities, appointments, employment opportunities etc.
  • Assisting individuals to participate in community activities.

POSITIONSUMMARY:

The position of Relief Community Support Workeris responsible for providing support to individuals with a developmentaldisability in their home and in the community. The position providesstimulating recreational support, in a variety of locations, to enable theachievement of individual potential while appropriately mitigating risk. Theposition also provides respite services for families and individuals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-year CollegeDiploma in a related field preferably BST, CYW, DSW
  • 1-year practicalexperience with individuals who have a developmental disability preferred
  • Knowledge andunderstanding of the needs and best practice service standards for personswith developmental disabilities
  • Goodproblem-solving skills
  • Good oral andwritten communication skills
  • CPI, CPR and FirstAid training
  • Valid Ontariodriver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITES:

1. ProvidesCommunity Support to Clients By:

  • Implementing thedelivery of services within the community
  • Teachingsituational daily living skills
  • Working towardsaccomplishing goals set by the Individual Support Plan (ISP)
  • Observingindividual’s relevant skill strengths and needs
  • Transporting theindividual to various activities, appointments, employment opportunitiesetc.

2. ProvidesRespite Support to Clients By:

  • Assistingindividuals with in-home daily living skills
  • Assisting theindividual to buy groceries, prepare meals and complete housekeeping tasksetc
  • Administeringpre-portioned medication where necessary
  • Communicating withprimary caregivers/case coordinators, to give up-dates and shareinformation
  • Ensuring safetyand security within the home
  • Facilitating inclusion and acting as a positive rolemodel
  • Providing information to other social servicesagencies and health care providers involved with clients

  • Knowledgeableabout and guidance of others in order to fully comply with QualityAssurance Measures (QAM) guidelines as directed by MCCSS.
  • Is Knowledgeableabout, and ensures others are knowledgeable about in order to fully complywith the agency’s policies and procedures
  • Operates, at alltimes, in a safe and secure manner

6. Healthand safety:

  • Ensure Health andSafety Program requirements are followed based on the Occupational Healthand Safety Act
  • Ensure anawareness of safety measures for the agency, yourself and the individualsreceiving service.
  • Ensure compliancewith the agency’s mandatory training requirements.

Since 1983 DevelopmentalServices of Leeds and Grenville (DSLG) is a non-profit, charitable organizationproviding services and supports for people with developmental disabilities.Incorporated in May 1983, DSLG began operations in July of that year under thename Brockville and Area Centre for Developmentally Handicapped Persons Inc.(B.A.C.D.H.P. Inc.). DSLG offers a variety of clinical and family support services to children and adults living in the counties of Leeds and Grenville. Services are available to individuals who are experiencing a developmental/ intellectual disability or in some cases to children who may be at risk for a developmental/intellectual disability. Services are also available to the family, the school, the community and other human service organizations that affect the individual. We strive to make our broad range of support services inclusive, individualized and emphasize full participation in community life. We work collaboratively with our community partners to be innovative and translate our fundamental beliefs into daily practice.
