Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) - Operating Room

Located in scenic Quinte West, Trenton Memorial Hospital (TMH) serves a vibrant community. TMH provides 24/7 emergency care, acute inpatient services, day surgeries, and a full range of outpatient diagnostics and specialty clinics. Responsibilities

• Utilizes the Nursing Process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
• Provides preoperative teaching to patients and families as required.
• Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, skills and judgment in assessing health needs and in planning, administering and evaluating patient care in the operating room environment.
• Collaborates with other members of the health care team to provide patient care.
• Maintains nursing records.
• Participates in Quality Improvement programs to ensure a high level of patient care.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Completed Post Graduate Operating Room Certificate.
• Current CPR or BCLS certificate.
• Minimum of 2 years’ operating room experience in the last 5 years.
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
• Available to work all shifts (days, evenings, weekends) and on-call duty.
• Must have demonstrated ability to work independently and have strong organizational skills.
• Must have satisfactory work performance and attendance in present position.
• Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload (Physical Demands Analysis available to review).
• Medical Surveillance is required for personnel routinely working with mechanical equipment and the class of lasers used in the OR. A hearing test and eye exam must be arranged.

Physical Demands

• Strength: Required Occasionally – lifting and carrying average weight 20 pounds and max 50, pushing/pulling average 10-15 pounds and max 30 pounds; patient assist approximately 100 pounds.
• Mobility: Required Constantly – standing; Required Frequently – walking, bending/stooping, sitting, twisting/turning, crouching/squatting, kneeling; Required Occasionally – sitting, twisting/turning, bending, crouching/squatting, kneeling; Required Rarely – balancing, climbing.
• Dexterity: Required Frequently – forward shoulder movements, gripping/grasping, pinching, neck, elbow, shoulder, wrist and back normal range of motion; Required Occasionally – fine finger movements, shoulder movements (up/down); Required Rarely – foot action.
