The Clinical Care program is currently seeking a part-time, permanent Registered Practical Nurse to work on the Crisis Critical Care TX U5 (formerly EPU). As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care, ensuring safety, security, and adherence to CNO standards. Using a primary nursing model, you will collaborate to perform assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate interdisciplinary care plans for clients experiencing various mental health issues. Responsibilities include working with diverse patients, contributing to program development, and providing education, support, and supervision to students. You should have knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, addiction, trauma, and severe mental illnesses. Skills required include behavioral observations, mental status assessments, response monitoring, documentation, and communication within the team. The role involves shift rotations and weekend work, located at 1051 Queen Street West.
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and hold a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate. Medication administration certification or completion of an RPN education program including medication administration is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to develop nurse-client relationships and work collaboratively within a diverse team. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of early intervention principles for psychosis, psychiatric nursing, addiction issues, and the Mental Health Act. Experience managing disturbed behavior and working with individuals with mental illness or addictions is an asset. The candidate should be self-directed, organized, and culturally competent. Computer literacy and proficiency in English/French or another language are assets.
