The Clinical Care Program is currently seeking a part-time, permanent Registered Nurse to work on the Crisis Critical Care Unit 4. This is an exciting professional opportunity!

The model of care on the unit emphasizes treatment of concurrent disorders and patient engagement in therapeutic programming, with opportunities for capacity building and skill development. As a member of an inter-professional team, you will:

  1. Provide client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care for clients from diverse populations;
  2. Perform assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate the inter-professional plan of care for clients with a wide range of diagnoses;
  3. Use critical thinking and customer service to approach care;
  4. Ensure the security and safety of the inpatient unit, practicing in accordance with professional regulatory standards, CAMH policies, the CAMH Practice Model of Care, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice;
  5. Liaise with other CAMH services and community agencies to coordinate care for clients;
  6. Participate in clinical supervision;
  7. Provide education, support, and supervision to students; and
  8. Participate in the clinical research activities of the program.

We are looking for a passionate RN who:

  • Has demonstrated ability to make behavioral observations, conduct physical and mental status assessments, and monitor client responses to pharmaceutical and care interventions;
  • Has sound knowledge of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, severe and persistent mental illness, addiction issues, recovery-oriented approaches, culturally competent care, trauma-informed care, group facilitation;
  • Has demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behavior; and
  • Supports a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages interprofessional teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory requirements.

This position requires day, evening, night, and weekend rotations. It is located at 1001 Queen Street West.

The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative, diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills are required. Nursing experience caring for individuals with mental illness and/or addiction issues is necessary. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is essential. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note: This part-time, permanent position is a 0.45 commitment, which may change as per the Collective Agreement. Additional hours may be available based on operational needs. This position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit.
