Job summary

West Shore Parks & Recreation is seeking a Front Desk Receptionist to join our team in Victoria, BC. You will provide exceptional customer service, handle program registrations, and perform clerical duties with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

The position offers $34.07 CAD per hour (includes 14% in lieu of benefits) with flexible hours (5–15 per week); access to counselling services; a staff pass for facility access and recreation programs, including weight room, classes, skating and pool;

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent with customer service, typing and office practices.
  • At least one year of general office work experience and reception experience.
  • Experience with Windows, MS Word, Excel; cash handling experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication; able to multi-task.

Responsibilities

  • Provides first point of contact customer service to patrons and staff.
  • Answers inquiries in person, by telephone, and by email.
  • Directs visitors and provides information about programs and services.
  • Performs clerical tasks and operates standard office equipment.
  • Takes registrations and records payments for programs and services.
  • Prepares cash receipts, deposit summaries and cash reconciliation sheets.
  • Prepares lists and tabulations requiring simple arithmetic.

Job description

SALARY: $29.89 per hour + 14% in lieu of benefits = $34.07 per hour! (2025 rates)

CLASSIFICATION: J06, Clerk II

HOURS OF WORK: 5 to 15 hours per week with a potential for more hours based on vacation or sick coverage need. Shifts range from 5:45AM -10:00PM Monday to Friday, 6:45AM - 8:00PM Saturday and Sunday, and statutory holidays as operationally required. Successful applicants must be flexible and able to cover a variety of vacation schedules at any time of the year.

Position Overview

We are seeking a receptionist to join our team! Under the general supervision of the Systems Specialist, the Front Desk Receptionist assists the department in providing customer service and clerical support, including program registration that encourages individuals, families and organizations to participate in and enjoy a wide variety of active and passive recreation activities. The primary objective of the Front Desk Receptionist is to provide a high degree of customer service and clerical support in an organized and timely manner.

In addition to excellent wages, we offer an additional 14% in pay, per hour, in lieu of benefits; access to counselling services; a staff membership pass providing drop-in access to the weight room, fitness classes, skating, and the pool; as well as the ability to play on our 9-hole golf course.

Job Duties & Accountabilities
  • Provides ‘first point of contact’ customer service to patrons and staff.
  • Answers all inquiries in person; telephone; and email.
  • Directs visitors and provides routine information to facility users and outside agencies regarding programs and services, all while exemplifying excellent customer service.
  • Provides clerical support in a variety of areas; operates standard office equipment such as a multi-line telephone system, computer, photocopier, and fax machine.
  • Takes registrations, receives and records payments for programs and services.
  • Prepares cash receipts for deposit, deposit summaries, and cash reconciliation sheets.
  • Prepares lists and tabulations which may involve simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent supplemented by courses in customer service, typing and general office practices.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, including at least one year's experience in general office work.
  • One year of reception experience, including receiving and processing computerized registrations or similar functions.
  • Must have experience with Windows, MS Word, Excel and other database systems. Preference will be given to those with Intelligenz registration and facilities management software experience.
  • Experience handling cash and processing cash transactions required.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), customer service, and public relation skills.
  • Adaptable with the ability to problem-solve in a positive solution-based manner.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize effectively and efficiently, and complete required work assignments.
  • Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment, and work as a positive and effective team member is essential.
