Job summary

West Shore Parks & Recreation is seeking a Facility Maintenance Cleaner to keep our facilities clean, safe, and well‑maintained. The role supports operational needs with flexible shifts across days, evenings, overnights, and weekends.

Employees enjoy access to a staff facility pass, counselling services, and a 14% in lieu of benefits; a current criminal record check is required. This is a union position with varied hours to meet community needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; some experience in light janitorial or cleaning work.
• Valid Class 5 BC driver's license is required.
• Ice facility operator or refrigeration operator certificates are assets.
• Pool operator I & II certificates are assets.
• Emergency First Aid and CPR C/AED certificates are assets.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Incumbent must have sufficient physical strength and stamina.
• Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings and nights, weekdays and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, wash floors and arena stands, vacuum carpeting, clean bathrooms and fixtures, pick up debris and empty trash.
• Perform cleaning functions for floors, washrooms, public areas and replenish supplies.
• Maintain contact with teams, organizations, and the public; advise on facility use according to booking schedule.
• Set up tables, chairs and other items as required by user contracts.
• Dust furniture, wash doors and windows, dust mops, and dispose of refuse.
• Clean lighting fixtures; change lights and ceiling panels; perform minor repairs.
• Notify supervisor of repairs to rooms and fixtures.
• Keep building secure by locking doors/windows and patrolling the facility.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

SALARY: $26.65 - $28.84 per hour + 14% in lieu of benefits

HOURS OF WORK: Hours vary based on organizational needs. Applicants must be able to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, overnights, weekdays and/or weekends to support operational requirements.

Position Overview

We are seeking positive and reliable individuals to work as a Facility Maintenance Cleaner. As part of the maintenance team, this position plays an important role in keeping our facilities clean, safe, and in excellent working condition for our community.

In addition to great wages, employees receive access to counselling, and a staff facility pass, which provides drop‑in use of the weightroom, fitness classes, skating, the pool and our 9‑hole golf course.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

• Sweep, mop, wash floors and arena stands vacuum carpeting, area rugs, upholstered furniture; clean and disinfect bathrooms and fixtures; pick up debris and empty trash containers; clean windows; perform other duties as required.
• Performs building cleaning functions such as mop washing and stripping, washing, and scrubbing floors, disinfecting washrooms and changerooms, cleaning public areas, and replenishing supplies.
• Maintains contact with teams, organizations, and the general public, and advises on facilities’ use and availability according to the booking schedule.
• Set up tables, chairs, and other items as required by users’ contract specifications.
• Dusts furniture and fixtures, washes, and cleans doors and windows, dust mops, collects, and disposes of refuse.
• Cleans lighting fixtures and changes lights, ceiling panels, globe covers and performs minor repairs.
• Notifies supervisor of needed repairs to rooms and fixtures, including, but not limited to, lighting, plumbing, and other structural items.
• Maintains the security of the building by ensuring all doors and windows are locked at the end of each shift or when areas of the building are not in use and by patrolling the facility to prevent theft and vandalism.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
