Job description

Align Family Law is looking for a warm, organized and genuinely kind person to join our Victoria office as a Part-Time Receptionist.

We're a family law firm, which means the people who contact us are often going through one of the most difficult periods of their lives. The person answering our phone and welcoming people into our office isn't just answering a phone.

You're often the first person who gets the opportunity to make someone's day a little easier.

What it's like to work at Align

We believe people do their best work when they're trusted, supported and appreciated.

You won't be expected to know everything. You will be expected to ask questions, communicate and care about doing a good job and you can expect the same communication and support from us.

We also understand that you have a life outside the office. Appointments happen. Families need us. Life occasionally refuses to cooperate with our calendars.

Flexibility and understanding go both ways here.

And because this is family law, there will occasionally be a difficult or emotional client. Being treated disrespectfully is not part of your job description. You're part of our team, and we'll have your back.

What you'll be doing

As the first point of contact for many of our clients, you'll help keep the front end of the firm welcoming, professional and running smoothly.

Your day may include answering and directing telephone calls, greeting clients and visitors, responding to general inquiries, managing incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries, scheduling appointments, assisting with basic file and document organization, and providing general administrative and overflow support to our lawyers, paralegals and legal assistants.

There will be variety of work and as you become comfortable in the role, there may be opportunities to take on additional administrative or legal support work depending on your interests, abilities and the needs of the firm.

Who we'd love to meet

You don't necessarily need years of law-firm experience.

We're much more interested in finding someone who is:

  • Warm, friendly and comfortable speaking with people;
  • Professional and compassionate, particularly with clients who may be stressed or emotional;
  • Organized and dependable;
  • Comfortable with computers and learning new technology;
  • A good communicator who isn't afraid to ask questions;
  • Able to manage interruptions without losing track of what they were doing;
  • Someone who notices what needs to be done and is happy to help; and
  • Looking for a workplace where being kind and being good at your job are equally valued.

Previous reception, administrative or law-office experience would certainly be an asset, but the right person matters more to us than the perfect résumé.

The schedule

This is a Monday-to-Friday, part-time position, initially approximately 4 hours per day.

There is some flexibility around the exact hours, and there is potential for the position to grow into additional hours as the role develops and if that's something you're interested in.

We think this could be a great fit for someone looking for meaningful, consistent weekday work without committing to a traditional full-time schedule.

What we can promise you

We won't tell you we're a "family" and expect that to mean you should sacrifice your own.

What we can tell you is that we care about creating a workplace where people communicate, help each other, are treated with respect and hear "thank you" on more than one designated day of the year.

We work hard. We laugh. We ask for help when we need it. And we recognize that every person in the office contributes to the experience our clients have with Align.

Interested?

If you're looking for a part-time position where you can do meaningful work, be part of a professional and supportive team, and still have room in your life for everything that happens outside the office, we'd really like to meet you.
