Job summary

AltaLink is hiring two full-time Control Centre Operators to monitor and control Alberta's transmission network in real-time. Responsibilities include operating procedures, maintaining system reliability, and executing switching with a focus on safety and compliance.

The role requires a technical diploma or trade, NERC Transmission Operator certification, and the ability to work a rotating 12-hour shift, with occasional overtime and travel as needed. Calgary location.

Qualifications

• Electrical/utility technical background required with relevant diploma or trade.
• Must attain and maintain NERC certification as Transmission Operator.
• Proficient with MS Office suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams).
• Experience with electricity transmission systems is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license required for travel.

Responsibilities

• Operate AltaLink transmission systems in real-time per procedures.
• Monitor voltage, loading, and take corrective actions to minimize violations.
• Assess impact and restore system to stable state with minimum risk.
• Prepare and execute planned and emergency switching on the power system.
• Log events, changes, disturbances, and trouble for reporting.
• Compile data for documents, investigations, and metrics.
• Support Operator Training with SME guidance and mentorship.
• Participate in tool testing and provide SME feedback.
• Collaborate with internal partners and external utility customers for safe operations.
• Engage in continuous improvement and other duties as assigned.
• Demonstrate AltaLink cultural pillars: teamwork, improvement, customer focus, accountability.
