Job summary

VIA Rail in Canada is seeking a skilled tradesperson with welding experience to join our maintenance team. You will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on railway cars, ensuring reliability and safety across our fleet.

The role requires experience or certification in welding, and the ability to work a variable schedule including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Journeyman certification or Red Seal is an asset and we offer a comprehensive benefits package and pension plan.

Qualifications

• Experience and/or certification or diploma in a skilled trade (welding).
• Experience in maintenance or assembly of transportation equipment.
• Ability to work various shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends) according to a schedule established in advance.
• Journeyman certification or Red Seal is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on railway cars
• Maintain interior systems (toilets, seats, windows, etc.)
• Work on major components (wheelsets, couplers, etc.)
• Diagnose mechanical issues and propose solutions
• Collaborate with the maintenance team
