Job summary

VIA Rail Canada at the Vancouver Maintenance Centre seeks a maintenance helper to support locomotive operations outdoors with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to rules. You will assist in moving and positioning locomotives, perform routine cleaning, and participate in general maintenance tasks.

A high school diploma and willingness to work in all weather are required; a Class 3 driver’s license is an asset. Competitive hourly wage and benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 3) is an asset.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Knowledge of CROR (Canadian Railway Operating Rules) and experience in transportation, mechanical work, or railway industry is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe movement of locomotives and train consists within and around the Maintenance Centre.
  • Operate and position locomotives in accordance with safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform general cleaning of locomotives and work areas as required.
  • Carry out other related duties to support maintenance operations.

What We Offer
  • Hourly wage: $38.23/h
  • Shift premiums: evening ($1.50/hour), night ($2.00/hour)
  • Comprehensive benefits (medical and dental) and pension plan

  • 5 personal days and up to 10 sick days
Your Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For
