Job summary

VIA Rail in Vancouver, BC seeks a Maintenance Centre operator to ensure the safe movement of locomotives and train consists. The role is permanent, full-time, 40 hours weekly with a variable schedule including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

You will perform general locomotive cleaning, operate locomotives within safety rules, and support maintenance operations. Minimum education is a high school diploma; valid driver's license (Class 3 an asset); must be able to work outdoors in

  • High school diploma required.
  • Valid driver’s licence (Class 3 is an asset).
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Knowledge of CROR (Canadian Railway Operating Rules) and experience in transportation, mechanical work, or the railway industry (asset)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe movement of locomotives and train consists within and around the Maintenance Centre.
  • Operate and position locomotives in accordance with safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform general cleaning of locomotives and work areas as required.
  • Carry out other related duties to support maintenance operations

What we offer
  • Hourly wage: $38.23/h
  • Shift premiums: evening ($1.50/hour), night ($2.00/hour)
