Job summary

Watco Transloading is seeking a Student Conductor to learn safe switching of railcars using locomotive power, with managers and trainers. You will follow safety rules, complete paperwork, and contribute to efficient yard operations.

The role reports to a team on site, with training and potential certification. Pay ranges from $30.00 to $35.00 per hour, with opportunities to advance within Watco's network.

Qualifications

• Ability to pass training and required Conductor Certification testing
• Valid driver's license
• Willingness to obtain locomotive engineer certification after conductor certification

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance
• Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule
• Read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math
• Learn from directions, observations, and mistakes to apply procedures using good judgment
• Assist in inspection of locomotive(s) before running to verify fuel, sand, water, and other requirements
• Read and interpret switching orders from designated person
• Observe and learn radio and hand signals in yard and operate locomotive per rules
• Turn hand brake wheel and apply/release handbrakes
• Raise coupling lever to couple or uncouple cars
• Move cars using signals and lanterns or radio
• Perform other duties as assigned
