About Provincial Health Services Authority

BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) is ranked among the top pediatric specialized hospitals in the world. We are the only dedicated paediatric hospital in the province of British Columbia. We care for the province's most acutely ill or injured children and youth, provide developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offer a broad range of health services and specialized programs both locally and via telehealth/outreach. BCCH is a leading acute care teaching facility, and conducts research to advance health and care through the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute and in partnership with the University of British Columbia. We are a ChildKind certified hospital.

BCCH is a program within the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) which plans, manages and evaluates specialty and province-wide health care services across BC. PHSA has been gifted six Coast Salish teachings which direct us in our work and in our relationships with each other. Thee eat “Truth” , Eyhh Slaxin “Good medicine”, Nuts a maht “We are One”, Whax hooks in shqwalowin “open your hearts and your mind”, Kwum kwum stun shqwalowin “make up your mind to be strong”, Tee ma thit “Do Your Best”. This a historic moment in time for PHSA. As a colonial society, we have purposefully erased Indigenous ways of knowing and being even though we live, work and play on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of many First Nations who have nurtured these lands for thousands of years. PHSA has acted as a colonial organization since its beginnings. At this time of Truth and Reconciliation, when we are committing to the B.C. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act legislation, we must look at and act on things differently. We are committed to eliminating Indigenous Specific Racism in our health services and to creating cultural safety for Indigenous people who work with us or require our services.

We are committed to embracing and welcoming diversity, ensuring equity and enhancing inclusion. Care delivery at BCCH is trauma informed and patient and family focussed. The health and well-being of our providers and staff are a priority. Leaders are expected to demonstrate these commitments in all that they do.

PHSA and BCCH are committed to employment equity, encouraging all qualified individuals to apply. We recognize that our ability to provide the best care for our diverse patient populations relies on a rich diversity of skills, knowledge, background and experience, and value a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.

One of PHSA’s North Star priorities is to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism, which includes dismantling barriers to health care employment at every level. We welcome Indigenous individuals to apply and/or contact the Sanya'kula Team (Indigenous Recruitment & Employee Experience).

Indigenous-specific anti-racism initiatives are rooted in addressing the unique forms of discrimination, historical and ongoing injustices, and marginalization faced by Indigenous peoples. These initiatives align with an Indigenous rights-based approach, recognizing the inherent rights and self-determination of Indigenous communities. PHSA must uphold legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents such as including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study.
