Psychiatrist - Calgary Institute of Counselling
About CIOC

Calgary Institute of Counselling is one of Calgary's leading multidisciplinary mental health clinics, home to a team of 25+ registered psychologists delivering a full range of psychological services to individuals, couples, and families. We are growing - with a new NW Calgary location opening in September - and are now expanding our clinical model to integrate psychiatry directly into our practice.

Our approach is built on true interdisciplinary collaboration. Psychologists and the incoming Psychiatrist will work with a shared patient population, coordinating care so that clients benefit from both psychological therapy and psychiatric expertise under one roof.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity for a Psychiatrist who wants to practice within a well-established, high-volume psychology clinic rather than build a practice from scratch. Our referral management system is fully operational - you will receive a steady stream of warm referrals from our existing psychologist team, who will continue to carry the therapeutic relationship while you provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for clients already engaged with our psychology team, as well as new referrals
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in coordination with the client's treating psychologist
  • Provide medication management and ongoing psychiatric follow-up
  • Assess and manage psychiatric risk, including crisis intervention when required
  • Participate in joint case consultations with psychologists to align therapeutic and psychiatric care
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in accordance with CPSA standards
  • Support the referral pipeline by providing clear, timely communication back to referring psychologists
  • Contribute to the integration of psychiatry services at our new NW Calgary location as it opens in September

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)

  • Strong collaborative communication skills - you will be working closely with non-physician clinicians
  • Experience in outpatient or community-based settings preferred
  • Commitment to culturally sensitive, patient-centered care
What We Offer
  • Managed referral stream from a team of 25+ psychologists
  • Integrated care model with shared patients across psychology and psychiatry
  • A growing practice: second NW Calgary location opened in September 2026
  • Flexible scheduling to suit your practice model
  • Full administrative support including referral coordination and scheduling
  • Collaborative, respectful team culture with experienced mental health clinicians
  • Modern clinic facilities

We thank all applicants for their interest. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
