Job summary

Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc (GSHI) is seeking a Protection and Control Technician to install, commission, and maintain SCADA, Load Control, Distribution Automation, and substation protection systems. You will work with communication networks, perform coordination studies, and contribute to planning and design efforts within the utility environment.

The role requires a three-year Electrical Technology diploma, at least five years’ experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and a valid G driver’s

Qualifications

Three-year Electrical Technology diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum five years of experience in relaying, metering, control, and communications systems, preferably in an electrical utility environment.
Strong planning, coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with electrical and optical test equipment used for protection, metering, power quality, communications, and fiber optics.
Knowledge of serial and Ethernet communications (Modbus, DNP3, TCP/IP).
Valid Class G driver’s licence with ability to perform frequent field work.

Responsibilities

Install, commission and maintain SCADA, Load Control, Distribution Automation, and Substation Protective Relaying-Metering Control systems.
Maintain the communication networks for these systems and participate in design and planning activities.
Conduct protective device coordination studies and related analyses for feasibility and optimization.
Maintain professional relationships with customers and field crews.
Use engineering software and utility analysis tools for planning and diagnostics.
