Qualifications

Protection and Control Technician - Power Distribution

Join Oakville Hydro as a Protection and Control Technician - Power Distribution.

About The Role

We seek a dynamic individual with excellent customer service and technical skills. The Protection and Control Technician will install and maintain advanced systems that protect and control electrical power distribution in a complex environment.

Duties Include
  • Manage the distribution system utilizing grid intelligence and over 215 automated devices
  • Install and maintain SCADA systems, substations, batteries, switchgear, transformers, and relays
  • Ensure device reliability, safety, and accuracy through inspection, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and upgrades
  • Program and automate field devices and systems
  • Perform repairs on electronic equipment and maintain communication systems
  • Maintain accurate records of all installations and repairs
  • Comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Journeyperson Substation Electrician
  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology Diploma
  • MEARIE Trades Training – Substation Electrician or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related role
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License with an excellent record
  • Knowledge of electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to interpret schematic and logic diagrams
  • Experience with protection relay testing and configuration software
  • Experience with SCADA systems and communication protocols such as DNP3 and Modbus is an asset
  • Ability to work outdoors in various conditions
