Job summary

Kernaghan Adjusters in Toronto is seeking an experienced all-lines adjuster dedicated to exceptional customer service. You will investigate claims, review policy wordings, and prepare detailed reports while negotiating settlements.

The role requires strong math, communication, and independent work in a high-pressure environment. The ideal candidate has property-claims experience, an Adjuster license (Level 1 or 2) or eligibility, and pursues CIP designation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of adjusting experience.
  • Experience handling property claims.
  • License Level 1 or 2 or eligibility to obtain.
  • CIP designation or working towards CIP.
  • Strong math, statistics and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, OneNote).
  • Experience with claims management systems.
  • Ability to work independently in high-pressure environments.

Responsibilities

  • Attend or investigate claims to assess damages, create scopes, interview claimants and witnesses and create diagrams.
  • Review policy wordings to determine coverage.
  • Communicate findings in detailed report format.
  • Review professional reports (engineering, accounting, legal, etc.).
  • Authorize or deny coverage based on findings and instructions.
  • Negotiate settlements with insureds/claimants.
  • Ensure claims are processed in accordance with statutory requirements.

Job description

The successful candidate is an experienced all-lines adjuster who is committed to providing exceptional customer service. They will have superior interpersonal, team building and strong organizational skills with a commitment to quality and integrity. They will have the ability to work well independently.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Reporting to the VP of Eastern Canada
  • Attending or investigating claims on behalf of our principals to: assess damages, create scopes of repair, interview claimants and witnesses and create scene diagrams
  • Reviewing policy wordings to determine coverage
  • Communicating findings of investigations in a detailed report format
  • Reviewing professional reports related to the claim; such as, engineering, accounting, legal or building consultant
  • Authorizing or denying coverage based on findings and instructions received from our principals
  • Negotiating settlements with insureds and/or claimants based on instructions received from our principals
  • Ensuring that claims are processed in accordance with statutory requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Minimum one year of adjusting experience
  • Have experience in handling property claims
  • Insurance Adjuster Level 1 or 2 License or meet requirements to obtain a Level 1 or 2 license
  • CIP Designation, or working towards CIP Designation
  • Outstanding mathematical, statistical, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and OneNote
  • Experience and ability to navigate a claims management system
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise discretion
  • The ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment
