Job summary

Project Management Institute - Southern Alberta Chapter (PMI-SAC) is seeking a scheduling specialist to support oil and gas EPCM projects. The role involves developing and maintaining integrated master schedules, coordinating with project teams, and leveraging Primavera P6 and MS Project to forecast progress.

The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and Mandarin, with strong analytical and communication skills, and a background in project controls or engineering.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years scheduling experience in EPCM/engineering, preferably oil and gas.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written).
  • Education in project controls, engineering, business or related discipline.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Experience using Primavera P6 and MS Project for schedule development.
  • Knowledge of WBS, CPM, and earned value management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and communication abilities.
  • Construction experience is a plus; PSP/PMP is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules for oil and gas EPCM projects.
  • Assist Project Managers with planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, and forecasting.
  • Create integrated schedules using Primavera P6 and/or MS Project.
  • Develop WBS and resource-loaded schedules aligned with execution strategies.
  • Collect and integrate scheduling data from multiple stakeholders to IMS.
  • Monitor schedule performance, identify variances and critical path impacts.
  • Perform critical path and float path analysis to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Support schedule change management by evaluating impacts of scope changes.
  • Prepare schedule updates, progress reports, and earned value analyses.
  • Develop progress measurement systems and schedule performance reports.
  • Establish baseline schedules and report performance against plans.
  • Prepare graphical schedules (Gantt, network diagrams, time-scaled charts).
  • Coordinate distribution of schedule information across teams.
  • Collaborate with project teams to resolve scheduling issues.
  • Ensure scheduling deliverables are accurate and timely.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules to support the successful execution of oil and gas EPCM projects.
  • Assist Project Managers with project planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, and schedule forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain integrated project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Participate in the development of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and prepare resource-loaded schedules aligned with project execution strategies.
  • Collect, consolidate, and integrate scheduling information from engineering disciplines, subcontractors, clients, and other stakeholders to produce and maintain the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
  • Monitor schedule performance, identify schedule variances and critical path impacts, and communicate findings and recommendations to Project Management and senior project controls personnel.
  • Perform critical path and float path analysis to identify schedule risks and opportunities.
  • Support project change management by evaluating schedule impacts associated with scope changes and approved modifications.
  • Prepare schedule updates, progress reports, earned value analyses, and other project performance metrics.
  • Develop and maintain progress measurement systems, including progress curves, S-curves, and schedule performance reports.
  • Establish and maintain schedule baselines while supporting project performance measurement against approved plans.
  • Prepare graphical schedule presentations, including Gantt charts, activity network diagrams, time-scaled logic diagrams, histograms, and other reporting tools.
  • Analyze project performance and provide recommendations to improve schedule accuracy, forecasting, and execution.
  • Coordinate the collection, verification, and distribution of schedule-related information across project teams.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, clients, and project controls personnel to proactively resolve scheduling issues and support project objectives.
  • Ensure scheduling deliverables are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of project scheduling experience within an EPCM or engineering project environment, preferably supporting oil and gas projects.
  • Fluency in both English and Mandarin is required.
  • Post-secondary education in Project Controls, Engineering, Business, Accounting, or a related discipline. Education related to the oil and gas industry is considered an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated experience using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project for schedule development and maintenance.
  • Solid understanding of project planning principles, scheduling methodologies, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), critical path analysis, and earned value management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify schedule discrepancies and recommend effective solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Construction experience is considered an asset but is not required.
  • Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be considered an asset.
