Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are a founder-led, profitable, and growing company. We are hiring a Project Manager for Ubuntu Embedded Systems. This role involves coordinating and completing large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of delivery, and acting as the primary liaison between Canonical's engineering teams and customers. You will manage projects involving the delivery of Ubuntu images on various devices, including robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This is a high-profile position requiring building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors, and other departments.

Location: Remote in the Americas region.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing projects through their complete lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients.
• Delivering engineering professional services for assigned projects.
• Collaborating with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery.
• Developing project statements of work.
• Drafting and maintaining project schedules and plans.
• Securing client agreement on schedules and work items.
• Ensuring project delivery within scope, time, and resources.
• Managing risk mitigation plans.
• Driving technical issues to resolution.
• Maintaining communication with clients and stakeholders.
• Managing delivery schedules of third-party deliverables.
• Updating management on project status.
• Identifying and managing engineering requests outside existing contracts.
• Advocating Canonical technologies to customers.
• Supporting work across different time zones and non-traditional hours as needed.

Qualifications:

• Solid experience managing engineering services and software development projects.
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project teams, especially in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred.
• Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with experience building partnerships.
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year.
