Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems for Canonical's Devices business. This role involves coordinating and completing large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of delivery, and acting as the primary liaison between engineering teams and customers.

You will manage projects involving Ubuntu image delivery on devices such as robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This is a high-profile role requiring building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and internal teams.

Location: Remote in the Americas region.

Responsibilities include:

1. Managing projects through their lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients.
2. Delivering engineering professional services for assigned projects.
3. Working with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery.
4. Developing project statements of work.
5. Creating and maintaining project schedules and plans.
6. Securing client agreement on schedules and work items.
7. Ensuring projects meet time, resource, and scope expectations.
8. Managing risk mitigation plans.
9. Resolving technical issues to achieve delivery outcomes.
10. Communicating regularly with clients and stakeholders.
11. Managing third-party deliverables and schedules.
12. Keeping management informed on project status.
13. Identifying and managing engineering requests outside existing contracts.
14. Recommending Canonical technologies to customers.
15. Supporting work across different time zones and non-traditional hours.

Ideal candidate profile:

• Experience managing engineering services projects, software development teams, and field engineers.
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources, especially in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred.
• Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with experience building partnerships and managing complex organizational relationships.
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred.
• Willingness to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year.
