Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems at Canonical. As a Project Manager for Canonical's Devices business, you will coordinate and complete large, complex customer-facing projects, overseeing all aspects of delivery and acting as the primary liaison between engineering teams and customers.

You will manage projects involving delivery of Ubuntu images on devices like robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems. This high-profile role requires building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors (Silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, IHVs), and other departments.

Location: This role is remote within the AMERICAs region.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing projects through their lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients
• Delivering engineering professional services
• Collaborating with engineering on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery
• Developing project statements of work
• Maintaining project schedules and plans
• Securing client agreement on schedules and work items
• Ensuring projects stay within scope, time, and resources
• Managing risk mitigation plans
• Driving technical issues to resolution
• Communicating regularly with clients and stakeholders
• Managing delivery of third-party components
• Updating management on project status
• Identifying additional engineering requests
• Promoting Canonical technologies to customers
• Supporting support for different time zones and non-traditional hours

Qualifications:

• Experience managing engineering services projects and software teams
• Proven success managing cross-cultural, multi-continent teams (Asia, Europe, Americas)
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred
• Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture
• Excellent English communication skills
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with experience building partnerships
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred
• Willingness to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times/year
