Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems

We are hiring a Project Manager - Ubuntu Embedded Systems to coordinate and complete large, complex customer-facing projects, acting as the primary liaison between Canonical's engineering teams and customers. The role involves managing projects that deliver Ubuntu images on devices ranging from robots, edge gateways, IoT devices, to PCs and automotive systems. This is a high-profile management position requiring building and maintaining relationships with team members, customers, partners/vendors, and internal departments.

Location: This role is remote, based in the Americas region.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing projects through their entire lifecycle to meet goals for Canonical and clients
• Delivering engineering professional services for assigned projects
• Collaborating with engineering teams on custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery
• Developing project statements of work
• Drafting and maintaining project schedules and plans
• Obtaining client approval for schedules and work items
• Ensuring projects are delivered within scope, time, and resources
• Managing risk mitigation plans
• Driving technical issues to resolution
• Maintaining communication with clients and stakeholders
• Managing delivery schedules of third-party deliverables
• Reporting project status to management
• Identifying and managing engineering requests outside existing contracts
• Advocating for Canonical technologies to customers
• Supporting support for different time zones and non-traditional hours as needed

Qualifications:

• Experience managing engineering services projects, software development teams, and field engineers
• Experience managing cross-cultural, multi-continent project resources, preferably across Asia, Europe, and the Americas
• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math preferred
• Knowledge of Linux, open source community, and computer architecture
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills; ability to build partnerships and work with demanding sponsors
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 certification preferred
• Willingness to work non-standard hours and travel up to 4 times a year
