Job description

QM Environmental, one of Canada’s largest full-service national decommissioning and environmental remediation firms, is seeking a Project Manager in Burlington, ON. This role requires a strong focus on both project management and estimating, ensuring projects meet or exceed financial targets, are completed on time, and adhere to the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance. The Project Manager will work closely with the estimating and project management teams to prepare accurate and detailed estimates while overseeing project execution from start to finish.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management and Execution

  • Manage the entire project lifecycle, from project initiation to close-out, ensuring alignment with client contracts, key performance indicators, and financial targets.
  • Oversee on-site resources, including human capital and equipment, to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Open project jobs, obtain contracts and purchase orders, and manage billing procedures.
  • Oversee preconstruction submittals, permits, site documentation, and safety compliance.
  • Delegate tasks, engage subcontractors, and monitor project progress, ensuring budget and schedule adherence.
  • Manage change orders, chair project meetings, and ensure accurate and timely invoicing of completed work.
  • Lead project close-out activities, including the collection of payments, post-construction submissions, and lessons learned reviews.

Estimating and Bid Preparation

  • Identify opportunities in the Emergency Response (ER), Remediation, Demolition and Hazmat sectors through networking and research.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to align strategies across departments and locations, determining bidding strategies for larger projects in the East and coordinating with the West on national bids.
  • Prepare and submit tender packages for larger bids, ensuring deadlines are met and project requirements are thoroughly analyzed.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and internal teams to discuss and resolve issues related to project estimates.
  • Mentor junior estimators, oversee bid preparation and submittals, and contribute to team development.

Client Relationships and Business Development

  • Actively seek and cultivate relationships with industry stakeholders to identify new business opportunities.
  • Participate in bid reviews, prepare cost estimates, and present recommendations to the leadership team.
  • Engage with the Marketing and Indigenous Relations teams to support the estimating process and enhance client relations.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure all activities comply with QM’s Health and Safety Policies and Programs, prioritizing safety in all project aspects.
  • Understand and apply all relevant health and safety regulations, ensuring projects exceed the required standards.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KEY COMPETENCIES

Education, Licenses & Certifications

  • Graduate from both a secondary and a post-secondary institution.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a diploma in Construction Technology is preferred; additional training in construction safety, demolition, or hazardous materials abatement is an asset.

Experience, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management and preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for remediation, ER, or civil projects within Canada.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of construction bids, processes, and contracts, including knowledge of local regulations and legislation.
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload and handle multiple estimates simultaneously.
  • Expertise in controls, estimating, and engineering, with proficiency in relevant software applications.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in mathematics.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders.

  • Thorough understanding of Corporate Health and Safety Programs, ensuring safety is a priority in all activities.
