The Opportunity
This position works out of Ontario for the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including Chemistry, Electrolytes, Hematology, Blood Gases, Coagulation, Endocrinology, Cardiac Markers, Neurology, and Informatics. As an Implementation Project Manager, you’ll be the managing the project plan for the implementations of Abbott Point of Care (APOC) instruments in hospital settings and private care clinics across Canada.
What You’ll Do
Become a subject matter expert for point of care testing and will need to be able to articulate the benefits of point of care testing across all levels (laboratory, emergency and critical care departments).
Responsible for developing a project plan that will meet the customer needs in regard to implementing point of care testing. It will be expected that you will be able maintain consistent momentum with each implementation assignment, and able to manage multiple implementation assignments simultaneously.
In charge of the data management systems integration of APOC data manager software and can provide technical support for existing interfaces, third party data managers and wireless solutions.
The project manager will also be expected to assist with laboratory validations and will need to be a knowledgeable resource to the laboratory leads (i.e. Biochemist, Hematologist) when discussing findings, and correlations between laboratory tests and point of care tests.
Other task includes end-user training, go-live support, and follow up support to the account. Follow up support includes ensuring that the account is at run rate, if not it will be up to the project manager to work with the sales executive to get the account back to the predetermined run rate.
Travels up to 75% of the time (primarily domestically) by any means to support business goals and ensure a successful implementation.
Responsible to identify and develop clinical champions for point care testing and the APOC instruments.
Field travel with the sales executives to assist in the acceleration of the sales cycles for large potential opportunities. This can include process mappings, attend observation days and assist with project charters.
Required Qualifications
Strong knowledge of the Canadian hospital system and its laboratory set up.
Bilingual (ability to speak and write proficiently in English and French) would be considered an asset.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to multitask and be well organized at the same time.
The capability to keep groups focused and on task to the result.
Demonstrates excellent communication skills and is comfortable connecting regularly with customers (who are healthcare providers).
At ease with working independently, however also have effective teamwork and leadership skills to guide the implementations to go live.
Must have good computer skills and be competent with working with different applications (such as Visio, Excel, Salesforce).
Must have strong public speaking skills, charisma and enjoy challenges.
Must be able to travel across Canada up to 75% of the time.
Bachelor's degree required, Bachelor of Science, or in the following medical program: nursing, laboratory medicine or respiratory therapy is preferred.
Project management certification would be an asset.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role within the healthcare industry.
Minimum 1 years of project management experience.
