Job summary

NSB Omega is seeking a Project Engineer - Civil/Structural for its Utilities Client in St. John's, NL. You will lead projects from initiation to completion, ensuring safety, on-time delivery and adherence to budget.

Responsibilities include developing scopes, schedules and budgets, coordinating with engineering teams to meet standards, reviewing tender packages, and leading project teams while conducting site visits to verify progress and support site activities.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience in project controls, planning, scheduling and estimating is a plus.
• Ability to manage projects at operational industrial sites with contractor supervision.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects from initiation to completion, ensuring on-time delivery and safety.
• Develop and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets with regular reporting to leadership.

• Oversee tender packages and participate in contract evaluation/awards.
• Manage project teams including internal engineers, contractors and consultants.

• Facilitate stakeholder communication and reflect changes in budgets/schedules.
• Review and approve technical documentation including commissioning procedures.
• Lead project closeout and transition to operations; promote lessons learned.

Assignment Description

Key Responsibilities

• Leadprojectsfrominitiationtocompletion,ensuringprojectsaredeliveredsafely,on time, and within budget;
• Developandmanageprojectscopes,schedules,andbudgets,includingregular reporting to NL Hydro leadership;
• Coordinatewithengineeringteamstoensureengineeringdesigns,specifications,and deliverables meet corporate standards and applicable codes.
• Overseeandreviewtenderpackages,participateincontractevaluationandaward processes, ensuring quality and value for NL Hydro;
• Manageprojectteams,includinginternalengineers,contractors,andconsultants,to achieve project objectives;
• Conductregularsitevisitstomonitorconstructionactivities,verifyprojectprogress,and provide support to site teams;
• Identify,evaluate,andmitigateprojectrisks,andmaintaintheprojectriskregister throughout the project lifecycle;
• Facilitateeffectivecommunicationacrossstakeholders,ensuringthatapprovedproject changes are reflected in the active budget and schedule;
• Reviewandapprovetechnicaldocumentation,includingcommissioningproceduresand designs.
• EnsurecontractorcompliancewithNLHydro’sContractorSafetyManagementPlanand corporate and Contractor HSE policies;

Education & Experience Required

• EngineeringDegreeinengineeringregisteredwiththeProfessionalEngineersand Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) association;
• Registered as a professional engineer (P. Eng) with the Professional Engineers and GeoscientistsofNewfoundlandandLabrador(PEGNL)association(orotherCanadian engineering association);
• Minimumof10yearsofprogressiveprojectmanagementand/orengineeringexperience in Civil/Structural Projects;
• Experienceleadingprojectriskidentificationsand mitigations
• Experiencewithonsiteprojectmonitoringatremote locations
• Experienceindesign,managingconstructioncontractsand commissioning;
• Provenanddemonstratedcommunication skills;
• Abilitytothriveasaparticipantand/orleaderwithinamulti-disciplineteamofbothinternal and external resources;
• Strongexperienceinprojectcontrols,planning,scheduling,andestimatingis considered an asset;
• Strongbackgroundincoordinatingandmanagingmultidisciplinaryprojectteams(e.g., electrical, civil, mechanical) and collaborating with design and construction groups;
• Demonstratedabilitytomanageprojectsonoperationalindustrialsites,including contractor supervision and adherence to site-specific safety requirements;
