Job summary

NSB Omega in St. John's, NL is seeking a Safety Advisor to support its Non Regulated Engineering Services Project Execution team across Newfoundland and Labrador.

The role emphasizes providing oversight, safety program implementation, incident investigations, coaching project teams, and ensuring compliance with OHS legislation and Hydro's Safety Management System.

Travel to various sites including Menihek, Churchill Falls, Muskrat Falls, Soldiers Pond, and others is required.

Qualifications

• Safety training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Auditing and incident investigations experience.
• Development of corporate programs and standards.
• Field experience related to hydro-electric facilities or electrical industry preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required due to travel.
• Ability to perform fieldwork in electrical utility/heavy industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight, technical advice, support and direction to the Project Execution team for contract, technical and capital work.
• Coach and support Project Managers and Construction Management Representatives in execution of work.
• Ensure Contractor Safety Management Program is effectively implemented through tender specs, bid reviews and field monitoring.
• Act as liaison with project managers and field personnel regarding safety issues and concerns.
• Coordinate and provide coaching for incident investigations.
• Assist new staff with safety reporting and observations.
• Review contractors' site safety documentation and safety plans; provide feedback.
• Participate in contractor kickoff meetings.
• Perform fieldwork, safety tours and inspections.
• Promote and ensure compliance with Hydro’s Safety Management System.
• Facilitate project risk assessments and audits related to Project Execution work.
• Liaise with field personnel regarding safety issues.
• Deliver in-house training as required.
• Communicate with Operations on a regular basis.
• Travel to various sites as required to provide input and field support.

Assignment Description

Our Client and its subsidiaries are seeking the services of one safety advisor to join its team to help support the Non Regulated Engineering Services Project Execution team. The individual will support the execution of projects throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provideoversight,technicaladvice,supportanddirectiontotheProjectExecutionteam for contract, technical and capital work;
• ProvidecoachingandsupporttoProjectManagersandConstructionManagement Representatives (CMRs) involved in the execution of work;

EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE REQUIRED
