Job summary

J.D. Irving, Limited is seeking a seasoned engineer to serve as the in-house resource for technology upgrades across drives, controllers, and automation systems.

You will drive capital projects from concept to start-up, coordinating multi-functional teams and vendors to deliver on-time, within budget, and in compliance with safety standards. The role requires a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree and at least three years of capital project leadership, with manufacturing or heavy

Qualifications

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree is required.
  • Minimum 3 years leading capital projects.
  • Asset: experience in manufacturing or heavy industrial projects.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional project teams with multiple stakeholders.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ownership, initiative, attention to detail, and a bias for right-first-time work.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the in-house engineering resource for technology and equipment upgrades, including drives, controllers, and automation systems.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through process improvements, automation, and safety improvements.
  • Lead and manage capital and expense projects from concept through start-up and completion.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, funding requests, and execution plans.
  • Oversee engineering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Deliver solutions that meet technical, operational, quality, and performance objectives.

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree

  • A minimum of 3 years experience leading capital projects

  • Prior experience in manufacturing or other heavy industrial projects is considered an asset

  • Ability to successfully execute within a team environment

  • Ability to lead cross-functional project teams involving multiple stakeholders, ensuring projects are completed in a cost-effective, timely, reliable, and safe manner

  • Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written

  • Must demonstrate ownership, initiative, attention-to-detail, and a drive to ensure things are done right the first time.

  • Above-average planning and organizational skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
