Job description

JDS is seeking a motivated and highly organized Project Coordinator to join our team advancing a multi-phase remediation project near Carmacks, Yukon. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful execution of a significant mine reclamation initiative that is critically important to federal, territorial, and First Nation governments, as well as other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering, environmental science, and/or project coordination within the mining, construction, and/or environmental remediation sectors, coupled with a proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships effectively. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to a project that prioritizes sustainability, collaboration, and community partnership.

The work schedule will include a mix of standard 40-hour office work weeks, with site visits and stakeholder meetings in various locations.

  • Perform work such as:
    • Project Coordination:
      • Drive progress by planning, executing, and monitoring project activities across multiple tasks/phases.
      • General site coordination for care & maintenance work and site programs, supporting by the Site Manager.
      • Development of RFQs, RFPs, and bid evaluations.
      • Hiring and managing contractors, reviewing invoices, and negotiating contracts.
      • Planning site programs and supporting their execution through coordination and procurement. Examples of site programs include drilling programs, soil remediation, environmental monitoring, infrastructure and equipment upgrades/maintenance.
      • Management of technical and environmental desktop scopes.
      • Management of subconsultants.
    • Project Controls:
      • Budget development, change management, and cost tracking and reporting.
      • Reviewing weekly timesheets, contractor invoices, monthly invoices from JV partners, and entering data into the project control system.
      • Maintaining the project Work Breakdown Structure.
      • Soliciting quotes from subcontractors/subconsultants.
      • Requesting Purchase Orders from Accounts Payable.
      • Developing and utilizing change management tools such as change notices, change orders, RFIs, DCRs, from both the owner and consultant/contractor side, ensuring a high level of detail and accuracy.
      • Developing invoice packages.
      • Tracking and projecting project revenue.
    • Cost Estimating / Scheduling:
      • Cost estimating for project activities to support budgets and change management.
      • Contributing to and maintaining detailed project schedules.
    • Communications & Reporting:
      • Leading, coordinating, and documenting meetings.
      • Reporting to the project team and Board, federal government, and First Nation government.
    • General Administration:
      • Organization and filing of project documentation, including vendor proposals, quotes, purchase orders, invoices, reports, etc.
    • Engagement: (supported by Engagement Lead)
      • General coordination and liaison between project teams, federal government, and First Nation governments.
      • Engaging with the local First Nations community to communicate the work completed on site and various opportunities.
      • Promote collaboration and mutual understanding through culturally sensitive practices.
      • Support communication and reporting pertaining to agreements, partnerships, and plans with First Nations, communities, and other key stakeholders.
      • Prepare and deliver project updates and reports to the First Nation government and local community in meetings, workshops, and community consultation events.
    • Health and Safety:
      • Promote a culture of health and safety throughout all phases of the project.
