Aurora College is seeking an experienced leader to become the Program Head, Social Work, within the School of Health and Human Services in Yellowknife. You will guide program delivery, curriculum development, faculty leadership, and student success across Northwest Territories communities.

The role combines academic leadership, program management and teaching excellence to prepare graduates for northern and remote community needs. Collaboration with partners is essential.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or related field.
  • Three years of Social Work experience.
  • Two years instructional experience at the post-secondary level.
  • One year supervisory experience.
  • Two years of Social Work in northern communities.
  • One year in program/curriculum development and research.

Job Information

Aurora College is seeking an experienced and passionate leader to join our School of Health and Human Services as the Program Head, Social Work. This exciting opportunity combines academic leadership, program management, and teaching excellence to support the development of future social work professionals across the Northwest Territories. As the college-wide lead for Social Work programs, you will guide program delivery, curriculum development, faculty leadership, student success, and strategic partnerships while ensuring graduates are prepared to meet the unique needs of northern and remote communities. Key responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the Social Work program.
  • Manage and supervise instructional faculty.
  • Provide administrative direction of program.
  • Develop and routinely revise course materials that are relevant, current, and consistent with subject content.
  • Deliver relevant Courses.

Key qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in Social Work or related education;
  • Three (3) years of experience in the field of Social Work,
  • Two (2) years of instructional experience in the field of Social Work at the post-secondary level;
  • One (1) year of relevant supervisory experience.

Two (2) years of experience working in Social Work related practice in northern communities, and one (1) year of experience in program/curriculum development and research in the field of Social Work or related health and social services will also be included in the six (6) years of experience indicated above.

Related education may include, but is not limited to: Master's Degree in: Public Health, Human Services, Clinical Counselling, Business Administration, Education

Additional Requirements:

  • Completion of six weeks of full time coursework in adult education within the first two years of employment and completion of a certificate in Adult Education within five years of hire.
  • Eligibility for or current Registered Social Work License issued by the GNWT Department of Health and Social Services.
