Job description

Westport Fuel Systems in Cambridge, Ont. designs and manufactures a comprehensive product mix of alternative fuel components for applications in the light and heavy-duty vehicle and industrial segments globally. This product mix includes Hydrogen (H2) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) components such as pressure regulators, tank valves, PRD's, PRV’s, shutoff valves and integrated systems for a wide range of applications, including Fuel Cell vehicles.

Position Purpose:

The Production & Logistics Manager is responsible for raw material and finished goods planning, assembly and shipment. This includes production planning, raw material scheduling, receiving and stocking parts, tracking inventory and scheduling builds. Furthermore, it includes determining staff requirements to fulfill production plan and working with HR to hire and then manage the production assemblers. This role will work closely with all other departments to ensure high quality products are assembled, tested and shipped to the customers on time

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for production planning and assembly department, including management of team
  • Responsible for logistics, including both incoming and outgoing shipments, material handling and management of team
  • Inventory control, including cycle counts or other methods to ensure accurate inventory levels
  • Negotiations with external logistics companies to achieve the best possible price
  • Create & improve processes where necessary to ensure we operate in a lean, efficient manner that meets IATF 16949, ISO 14001 and other customer specific requirements
  • Coordinate with purchasing, process and design engineering, quality and other departments to meet production plan
  • Hold periodic production priority meetings, daily sometimes depending on volume
  • Use ERP system as necessary for inventory and production control
  • Support team with customer PPAP’s
  • Periodic performance reviews of direct reports, including goal setting

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Promote Westport’s H&S culture by leading by example in relation to Environmental H&S policies and procedures and understand your obligations and responsibilities as it relates to applicable H&S Acts and Regulations
  • Enforce Westport’s H&S policies and procedures, encourage safe work practices, correct unsafe acts or conditions, conduct formal and informal workplace inspections
  • Immediately respond to, investigate and act from reports of unsafe conditions and/or behaviors

Position Requirements

  • Degree, diploma or certificate in appropriate discipline
  • 5+ years in logistics or production management
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive industry
  • 5+ years of managing direct reports
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate effectively across departments, including Eng’g, production staff, program teams and customer
  • Have good knowledge of logistics, production control, supply chain management, warehousing and other aspects of the operation process.
  • Have good knowledge of IATF 16949
  • Financial analysis capabilities
  • Represent production and logistics in the change management process
  • Global experience with multinational suppliers and customers is an asset
  • Logical, Time Management, results-oriented
  • Strong English language – written and verbal
