Job Title: Manager, Operations (Freight) – Eastern Canada
Job Summary
FMi Logistics is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to work with our growing Eastern-based 3PL team. Working with our existing operations team to help manage our customers' transportation requirements throughout North America. Help create transportation solutions using a mixture of existing and new vendor relationships in this dynamic supply chain environment. Your experience and expertise in Supply Chain solutions will assist us in continuing to expand our presence in Eastern Canada.
As well, this role provides operational execution of transportation-related management services requiring engagement with all parties of interest to the business. This includes managing a client list and/or branch of the same, the vendor’s (carrier) and shippers/consignees associated with the clients’ service needs. Working closely with Clients and Carriers to coordinate and ensure clients’ assets are transported, traced, and delivered. Intermediate and above skills in industry pricing profiles, sales relationships, negotiation, and operational management skills are key to this role.

- Team Leadership: Coach and mentor Freight Coordinators and Account Managers.
- Client Relationships: Guide sourcing, pricing, and selling strategies with clients and vendors.
- Financial Growth: Build revenue awareness connected to Variable Compensation targets.
- Knowledge Management: Develop training manuals and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provide guidance, knowledge and support in sourcing, pricing, and selling strategies with clients and vendors.
- Develop and negotiate rates as required for both client and carrier programs.
- Preparing service proposals and rate contracts.
- Meet or exceed Company growth targets.
- Identify existing client growth, opportunity, and exposure for vertical integration.
- Negotiate Rail intermodal, FTL buy rates with carriers.
- Negotiate and Quote Rail intermodal, FTL rates to the clients.
- Monitoring a variety of shipments, ensuring they meet obligations of movement.
- Retrieve appropriate carrier reference numbers for tracking and tracing.
- Confirmation of charges on all applicable Rail, Road FTL carrier shipments.
- Order closure and hand-off to the accounting department
- Bill Clients according to pre-arranged rate structures or spot quotes for inbound, outbound, etc.
- Investigate and process freight claims as required.
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of a variety of reports.
- Positional support for the Freight Coordinators/Freight Account Managers in the case of vacations and absences
- Additional duties as required.
Education And Experience Requirements
- Post-secondary education is preferred; however, direct work experience instead of will be considered instead.
- Specific Transportation, Logistics, or other Freight – Supply chain education & knowledge is considered of great value and is directly linked to compensation.
- MIN 5+ years related experience in transportation or other related Logistics, Supply Chain experience, preferably in a leadership role
- 3-5 years of direct people/team management experience are essential.
- Depth in knowledge of the FTL and Intermodal markets domestically and within North America.
- Experience Negotiating rates with customers and carrier partners
- Experience in LTL & Truckload pricing
- Experience in Project Management
Qualifications/Skills
- Ability to work with deadlines and prioritize workload.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- An ability to type efficiently keyboard at a minimum of 45wpm.
- Proficiency in Transportation Management Systems, Load Boards & Tracking Tools
- Proficient in intermediate selling and negotiation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications.

- Must have Reliable transportation & Driver’s license
- This is a Hybrid role with some in-office days.
Be able to work remotely with the support of the Eastern Regional Manager and Freight Coordinators (with an on-site working option in the future)
