Job summary

Longboard Architectural Products is seeking a Production/Powder Coating Lead Hand to oversee the paint line, mentor staff, and ensure safe, high‑quality production. You will coordinate daily workflows, monitor machine performance, partner with maintenance, and drive continuous improvement to meet schedule targets and client specifications.

This hands‑on leadership role rewards initiative, reliability, and teamwork in Abbotsford, BC.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years production experience.
  • Grade 12 high school or equivalent.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs repetitively.
  • Familiar with LO/TO PPE and safety policies.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Lean belt knowledge is a plus.

  • Lead and mentor a team of Paint Line staff, providing support on operations, troubleshooting, and quality control.
  • Coordinate daily production activities, ensuring on-time completion and specifications.
  • Monitor machine efficiency and adjust with material handling to optimize flow.
  • Conduct regular quality checks and address issues to reduce scrap.
  • Identify and resolve equipment or material issues with maintenance.
  • Enforce safety policies and conduct daily safety checks.
  • Complete and maintain production logs, quality reports, and shift summaries.
  • Collaborate on process improvements to boost productivity and reduce waste.

About The Role

In the role of Production/Powder Coating Lead Hand, you will be a part of the Longboard team primarily responsible for providing effective leadership, ensuring quality control and machine efficiency, and supporting the production personnel on your team. Your goal is to ensure the safe and effective operation of the equipment from production and quality control to training and continuous improvement. You will work with the Powder coating/Paint-line team to organize work constraints and apply appropriate decision-making to ensure the machines in your area are producing consistent, high-quality material. The Lead Hand will be the right hand of their Supervisor, ensuring completion of the production schedule to meet company deadlines and performance targets.

What You Will Do
  • Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of Paint Line staff, providing support and guidance on machine operations, troubleshooting, and quality control. Assist in training new team members on safety protocols and machine procedures.
  • Production Oversight: Coordinate daily production activities, ensuring that work orders are completed on time and according to specifications. Monitor machine efficiency and make adjustments with the material handling team as necessary to maintain optimal production flow. Verify that the paint queued for production is the correct colour, texture, and grade for the orders in the upcoming schedule.
  • Productivity: Lead Hands will coordinate daily with the Supervisor to cover staff coffee and lunch breaks to ensure continuous production. They will work on the line as required to achieve production targets.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular quality checks on painted and decorated products, ensuring that the correct profiles, and finishes are being run in the correct order. Address quality issues promptly, working with the team to make adjustments and reduce scrap.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Identify and resolve equipment or material-related issues that may impact production. Work with the maintenance team on equipment repairs or adjustments as needed to prevent downtime. Ensure daily maintenance tasks are complete as required.
  • Safety Leadership: Enforce company safety policies, ensuring all team members follow proper procedures and use PPE. Conduct daily safety checks on equipment and report any hazards to management.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Complete and maintain production logs, quality reports, and shift summaries. Communicate production status, machine performance, and any issues to the Supervisor. Ensure counts, label information and data entry are correct before the material leaves the workstation.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with supervisors to identify opportunities for process improvements that enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve quality. Provide feedback and suggestions to management on potential upgrades or training needs.
  • Inventory & Material Management: Ensure logs, dies and machines are queued for production. Track material usage and report discrepancies to the supervisor.

You are a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You bring strong problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to motivate and support a team while ensuring production goals are achieved safely and efficiently.

Qualifications & Experience
  • 2+ years production experience
  • Grade 12 high school or equivalent.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs. repetitively.
  • Familiar in LO/TO PPE and safety policies.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Proven track record in planning, organizing, motivating, controlling, problem-solving, negotiating and leadership in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lean White/ Yellow belt or familiarity with Lean concepts is a plus
