Job description

Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Product Owner / Business Analyst to elicit, analyze, and document detailed business and technical requirements. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in Role:

Project Name: Digital Advisor Experience – An initiative aimed at providing an improved search experience and a new way to collect and share helpful material with a 'Pinterest'-type tool.

Advisor Facing Tools – Tools designed for bank advisors (and third-party advisors at other institutions) that enable portfolio comparison, fund comparisons, scenario analysis, and fund analysis.

Morning – Agile ceremonies, daily stand-ups, refinement, and planning with the development team (15 members).

Lunch – Together with teammates in the office.

Afternoon – Requirements elicitation, user testing, research, and working on user stories & documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Requirements Analysis & Documentation: Maintain requirement traceability, oversee the creation of user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications. Facilitate requirement gathering workshops with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals. Develop product feature specifications and manage roadblocks to meet sprint/release goals.
  • Process Documentation & Improvement: Drive continuous improvement by analyzing existing processes for enhancement opportunities. Develop and maintain process documentation, including process flows, wireframes, and user journey maps. Validate solutions through testing and data analysis, collaborating with QA teams. Own and refine the product backlog, prioritizing items based on business value and technical constraints. Break down complex features into manageable user stories and support sprint planning and backlog grooming.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and development teams, ensuring UX designs meet business requirements and features align with product strategy. Support the development team during implementation and communicate progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders.

Must-Have Skills:

  • 3+ years of relevant digital product management and business analysis experience.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Proven ability to drive results and collaborate effectively with partners across product, engineering, design, compliance, and legal teams.
  • Proficiency with product management tools (e.g., Jira, Roadmunk, Confluence, Figma, or equivalent).
  • Experience with Google Analytics or similar client analytics tools.

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Analytical skills and experience leveraging data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of storytelling to garner support and buy-in.

Soft Skills Required:

  • Effective communication, especially considering the offshore development team with varying levels of English proficiency.

Education:

  • University Degree (BA, MBA, or equivalent) or related work experience in business analysis and product ownership.
