Job summary

Suncor is hiring Process Operators for our Montréal sulfur plant, where you will monitor and maintain chemical processing operations to ensure safe, reliable production of liquid sulfur and sodium bisulfide. You will perform rounds, sample handling, and respond to abnormal conditions as part of a highly skilled, unionized team.

• Five years of relevant work experience in chemical processes or equivalent.

• Fluent in French – resume in FRENCH.
• Strong proven troubleshooting skills and the ability to make timely decisions.
• Ability to collaborate with others to achieve the best results and deliver value.

Responsibilities

• Conduct quality-control rounds and sampling with an operational discipline.
• Monitor the status of maintenance work.
• Participate in unit and equipment shutdowns.
• Respond to emergencies and/or upset conditions following procedures.
• Operate the Control Board.
• Take samples and perform light maintenance.
• Address potential problems as soon as identified.
• Carry out pipe alignments and other tasks to ensure smooth operations.

Minimum Requirements:

• Five years of relevant work experience in chemical processes and/or a DEC or AEC (diploma or attestation of college studies) in chemical process techniques or the equivalent
• A Class 4 (or higher) static-equipment mechanic's qualification card/certificate or to obtain it as a condition of employment
• A valid driver’s licence

• Strong proven troubleshooting skills and the ability to make timely decisions
• The ability to collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

Responsibilities:

• Conduct quality-control rounds and sampling at regular intervals with a critical eye for the operational process and equipment in use by demonstrating operational discipline
• Monitor the status of current maintenance work regularly
• Participate in unit and equipment shutdowns
• Respond to emergencies and/or upset conditions in the units following established procedures
• Operate the Control Board
• Take samples and perform light maintenance work
• Take action to resolve potential problems as soon as they are identified
• Conduct pipe alignments, maintenance and all other tasks required to ensure smooth operations
• Carried out truck and rail tanker loading/unloading

Location and other Key Details:

You will work at our Sulfur Plant within our Montréal refinery, located at 11450 rue Cherrier Montréal-east

Rotating day and night shift schedule, consisting of 12-hour shifts

You will need to be available to work overtime when required

This position is safety sensitive

You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, make use of ladders, and work on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers, with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces

This is a unionized role
