Job summary

Suncor in Fort McMurray, Alberta is hiring a Plant Operator to support Base Plant Upgrading operations. You’ll work alongside skilled operators to maintain safe, reliable processes and to uphold CoSO standards 24/7.

Relocation assistance is provided. Candidates should have 3rd Class Power Engineering, a track record in heavy oil or refinery operations, and be prepared for a 12-hour, six-on/six-off shift pattern.

Qualifications

  • Experience in plant operations such as heavy oil processing, steam/gas power or refinery operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make timely decisions under pressure.
  • 3rd Class Power Engineering certification (or higher).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Follow operating processes to ensure safety of people, equipment, and environment.
  • Prepare and complete daily area logs and communicate significant changes.
  • Provide direction and supervision to maintenance and contract personnel.
  • Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in plant operations such as heavy oil processing, sour gas processing, water treatment/power plants or refinery operations

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make timely decisions under pressure

  • 3rd Class Power Engineering certification (or higher)

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Responsibilities:

  • Follow all operating processes and procedures during operations to ensure the safety of our people, equipment, and the environment

  • Prepare and complete daily area logs and communicate significant changes and findings

  • Provide direction and supervision to the maintenance and contract personnel

  • Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets that are consistent with operational objectives and target outputs

  • Prepare equipment and systems for maintenance and commissioning

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant site in Fort McMurray, Alberta

  • The shift schedule is a 6 days on / 6 days off rotation (3 days on, 3 nights on, 6 days off; 12-hour shifts)

  • This position is safety sensitive

  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use of ladders and working on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces

  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory; relocation support will be provided
