Job summary

Imperial Oil seeks a Principal of Mine Tailings & Closure to serve as the senior technical expert for tailings, water management, reclamation, and mine closure at the Kearl Oil Sands operation. Office-based in Edmonton, with travel to Calgary and Kearl as needed.

This role provides strategic leadership, governance, and guidance to support safe, responsible development across the asset lifecycle. The successful candidate will influence long-term business decisions, mentor technical professionals,

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Geoscience required.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or eligible for registration in Alberta.
18+ years of experience in tailings, water management, reclamation or closure.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership on tailings, water management, reclamation and closure.
Guide long-range strategies and governance for tailings and closure.
Represent Imperial with regulators and industry groups.
Identify and champion new technologies to improve safety and environmental outcomes.
Develop internal standards and best practices; mentor professionals.
Review major decisions to ensure alignment with corporate objectives.
