Job summary

Imperial Oil seeks a Principal of Mine Tailings & Closure for the Kearl Oil Sands in Edmonton. You will lead tailings, water management, reclamation, and closure efforts, while aligning technical work with business strategy and regulatory requirements.

In this senior role, you will mentor professionals, influence major decisions, and collaborate with regulators and industry bodies to advance safe, responsible operations. Occasional travel to Calgary and Kearl may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Geoscience and P.Eng eligibility in Alberta.
• 18+ years of experience in tailings, water management, reclamation or mine closure.
• Ability to influence technical and business decisions, and lead multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for tailings, water management, reclamation, and closure.
• Lead multi-disciplinary planning, design, and execution with risk management.
• Represent Imperial with regulators, industry groups, and stakeholders.
• Evaluate new technologies and practices to improve performance and environmental outcomes.
• Support strategic decision-making and governance across the asset lifecycle.
• Develop internal standards, guidelines, and best practices.
