Job summary

Elastic seeks a Principal Software Developer to join the Elasticsearch Security team and lead architecture and design of core security features. You will provide high-performance security at scale across the distributed data store and mentor engineers to emphasize security-focused development.

You will collaborate with engineering and product leaders, drive major security components, and apply cryptographic solutions while aligning with security best practices.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
• Experience designing scalable RBAC/ABAC models and token validation pipelines.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems security concepts.
• Familiarity with edge identity protocols (OAuth 2.0, SAML).
• Proven ability to leverage AI to accelerate development and debugging.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and lead distributed teams autonomously.

Responsibilities

• Own core security initiatives from architecture to production for Elasticsearch core.
• Lead technical design, planning, and execution of major security components.
• Develop foundational security models for complex features.
