Elastic is seeking a Senior Security Research Engineer to lead innovative protections in the Elastic Defend endpoint solution. You will collaborate with researchers, data scientists, and engineers across time zones to build secure, scalable defenses for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

You will write performant C/C++ and Python, reverse engineer malware, and anticipate evasion tactics, while mentoring peers in a distributed team. This role offers a competitive CAD salary and a broad benefits program.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional security experience analyzing attacker TTPs and building detection methods.
• 6+ years of development in C, C++, and Python for security-critical codebases.
• Deep OS internals knowledge, Windows depth preferred, macOS/Linux depth also important.
• Reverse engineering and malware analysis experience with relevant tooling.
• Adversarial mindset to anticipate evasion before shipping protections.
• A collaborative attitude and willingness to learn across platforms and tech.
• Experience using AI to accelerate development and debugging in security projects.
• Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team with asynchronous communication.
• Passion for protecting data from attack.

Responsibilities

• Research attacker techniques and translate into shipped protections.
• Extend endpoint visibility by instrumenting Windows, macOS, and Linux telemetry.
• Develop production-quality C/C++ code running on millions of endpoints.
• Reverse engineer malware and study evasion methods.
• Own efficacy end to end; review telemetry and mitigate false positives.
• Extend protection parity across platforms and architectures.
• Collaborate with Elastic Security teams across countries/time zones.
• Help lead technical direction and mentor junior engineers.
• Publish and present research findings publicly.
